During a recent speaking tour in Australia, the Dalai Lama called on world leaders and individuals to care for the planet and reduce global warming pollution, stating that preventing global warming should be the number one concern right now for national governments. The Dalai Lama has also signed onto a document titled “The Time to Act is Now – a Buddhist Declaration on Climate Change,” which calls on world leaders to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide levels down to 350 parts per million. On December 10th of this year, he plans to use the anniversary of his acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize to highlight the need for action on global warming, and encourage individuals to make positive change. The Dalai Lama is one of many spiritual and religious leaders around the world who have become increasingly vocal in calling for strong action on climate issues.
