I’m not sure of what research is supporting this suggestion, but community service can expose someone to another’s plight and circumstance and can encourage someone to develop more empathy and compassion. As a result of this development of compassion and empathy, people could integrate this into who they are and this could lead to people becoming more socially and ecologically responsible.
