As of 2007, new apartment and office buildings are to meet energy efficiency requirements and “owners of existing constructions will be expected to spend an estimated $200 million to improve energy efficiency by 2020”. Also, as of 2007, the State Environmental Protection Agency has been cracking down on major power firms and highly polluted cities from “embarking on new developments until existing projects comply with environmental standards”.
