It depends on what you mean by trouble. BP has paid over $8 billion in claims based on the oil spill, and $20 billion to a claims escrow fund. Even for BP, that’s a lot of money.
Additionally, BP has a serious public relations problem now. For many years to come, people will associate their name with the Gulf disaster.
The easiest way, in my opinion, to punish a corporation is to fine them, because they are in business to make money. They have been fined, and their retail gasoline outlets have suffered loss of business. I would say they got in trouble.
