Bill Gates has contributed to helping the U.N special envoy for malaria reduce, and quite possibly eliminate malaria by 2015. He’s helping to fund a malaria vaccine that will be 100 percent effective, currently we only have a 50 percent effective vaccine that has greatly reduced malaria diseases by half in the last ten years. Also, “Proven and cost-effective measures currently available to fight malaria include insecticide-treated bed nets, anti-malaria medicines like the artemisinin-based combination treatments (ACTs), sprays and preventive treatment for infants and pregnant women.” According to the U.N. General Assembly Sri Lanka reduced their death rates to zero in 2009. A lot of progress is being made and the effort is being shown in effect.
