Has anyone made an educated estimate of the percentage of re-usable and/or recyclable items that are currently buried in landfills?

The APC reports that by 2007, almost 31 million tons of plastic waste represented the estimated 12 percent of the waste in landfills. Currently, about 38 billion water bottles end up in landfills each year along with billions of plastic bags.

Even though newspapers can be recycled, they represented the largest single item in landfills by both weight and volume. Since 1970, paper had increased in landfills and accounted for about 34 percent by weight and 38 percent by volume of the landfills dug.
