It does not seem as though the African Union has set up any specific environmental standards. However, it did promote Africa Environment Day, with a focus on biodiversity.
It is probably very difficult for the AU to create environmental standards for member nations, since many African countries are 1. Going through the industrial growth phase that European and European-based nations got to grow through and 2. Often dependent upon Western countries for industry (which is a terribly abusive cycle, perpetuated by the US). We buy so many resources from Africa because they can use environmentally unsafe techniques that we have outlawed. So, we essentially don’t like the mess in our backyard, but still want to reap the benefits. Sadly, due to the history of colonialism, many African nations depend on Western industry in order to have a place in the world economy.
