It depends on the location and what is up stream from you. Groundwater is a susceptible to contamination from various natural and man-made sources. Natural sources of pollution include leaching of mineral deposits, microorganisms and organic matter. Man-made pollution of ground water comes from the manufacturing, agriculture, and waste. Manufacturing and other chemical industries use water in their processes that if it is not properly treated when released back into the environment can cause ground water pollution. Agriculture can cause ground water pollution because of the runoff of the fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals used. Residential areas produce pollution as well because of the exposure of water to microorganisms and organic compounds often found in waste.
