Originally scientists believed it had stopped growing, and that it was much older, but recent scientists have found the Grand Canyon is relatively young as far a geological time goes, and that it is still growing. The Colorado River is still carving out the canyon, and the erosion it causes is what spurs the growth of the canyon. The scientists believe now that the Canyon’s growth happened in spurts, and the River is not done with the Canyon yet.
