Is Google the greenest company of its size?

Not quite. In 2009, Newsweek ranked the 500 largest companies according to how green they are. Google hit #79. Despite promoting renewable energy, buying carbon offsets and supporting electric vehicles, the company uses huge amounts of electricity and doesn’t release its GHG information. The top five, in order of rank, are Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Johnson & Johnson, Intel and IBM. HP is #1 for its strong efforts to reduce its GHGs (which are published) and toxic materials. The list seems to put a very high value on whether a company puts out its GHG info.
