One of the main reasons that has been used to justify India’s claim for a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council (UNSC) is its economic power. India has been home to one of the fastest-growing economies in the world throughout the past several years, as is signified by its inclusion in the BRICS nations.
The UK and France still enjoy the privilege of having permanent seats on the Security Council despite the fact that their economies have waned recently; some argue that combining their two seats into one and allowing India to take the empty seat would make more sense than the current system due to India’s rising economic power relative to the two nations. China is currently the only permanent member of the UNSC who has not publicly supported India’s induction to a permanent seat on the council.
