Relative dating is better and more accurate for sedimentary rock layers. Sedimentary layers are composed of all different kinds of rocks. They can be made up of metamorphic rocks, igneous rocks, and sediments. Absolute dating would date the specific igneous and sedimentary particles, but it would not be able to calculate when these rocks came together to form the full sedimentary layer. In other words, radiometric (absolute) dating would only date specific parts of the layer and not the layer itself. Hope this helps!
