Efficiency is a property of any generator. Efficiency comes in a form of a ratio of the generator’s output (such as energy produced) to the ideal/maximum output and/or energy consumed (such as heat produced by fuel combustion). The value can vary greatly, and is always below the ideal 100% due to energy lost as emitted heat, sound and/or some other form. The term ‘energy efficient’ usually applies to generators or other devices that have a higher efficiency than average at the time.
