This depends on the circumstances surrounding re hydrating. Most people drink Gatorade after a workout to rehydrate. Many of these people could adequately use water to accomplish the same thing. Gatorade is known as a “Sports Drink” meaning that it was designed to replenish football athletes after a long and rigorous workout or competition. Many people do not work out at the level Gatorade was designed for.
If your workouts are short (under 1 hour) water will usually work just as well. Water that it ice cold works especially well as it exits the stomach quickly. If your workout extends over 1 hour then your body begins to lose sodium, calcium and other electrolytes. This is a time when Gatorade would be more beneficial than water.
