Is gasoline consumption in the US declining?

Yes it is; over the past 4 years U.S. gasoline consumption has dropped roughly 5% and this number is expected to continue to drop.  This is due to a number of reasons including U.S. automobile fleet numbers, average gas milage per vehicle, gas prices, number of drivers, and oil availability.  Peak oil consumption took place in 2007.
