Is fuel cell technology way too expensive for cars?

Hydrogen fuel cell technology in cars has not moved forward as fast as the hybrid gas/electric cars because the technology is more expensive. There is one Honda fuel cell vehicle, the FCX Clarity, that is in production and can be leased in the Los Angeles area where there are hydrogen refilling stations. The technology is still prohibitively expensive for mass production, but fuel cell technology is recognized as being more sustainable than other battery based alternative options.
