I wouldn’t consider it a campaign specifically organized to discredit climate change. However, one of Fox News’ editors, Bill Sammon, sent an email to reporters, producers, and network executives stating “…we should refrain from asserting that the planet has warmed (or cooled) in any given period without IMMEDIATELY pointing out that such theories are based upon data that critics have called into question. It is not our place as journalists to assert such notions as facts, especially as this debate intensifies.” Various widely accepted studies have shown that manmade climate change is a real phenomenon, even if certain scientists may have misrepresented its extent. Thus, it would have not been appropriate for people working at the network to dismiss it as merely a “notion,” since journalists are supposed to report the facts about a situation. In conclusion, Fox News is clearly misleading people about climate change, even if it’s not a specific campaign to do so.
