filling in holes and planting grass seed

I have a lot of holes in my lawn due to me digging up rocks and stuff. What is the best way to fill in the hold and plant grass seed? Should I fill the holes all they way up and put seed on top? Of should I fill the holes halfway, plant seed and fill the hope up the rest? What’s best?

Check out the attached articles section on “dead spot replacement” for the best way to repair a lawn that has gotten beaten up and had sections die. As a former landscaper, I will say it is not necessary to fill the holes up (if the soil is good, the grass should grow) but the lawn will become uneven, as the grass will grow in the depresison left, instead of being “level” with the surrounding area.

    I hope this helped!
