Is the FDA planning to ban the practice of feeding cows farm waste?

Early last month the Consumers Union and the Food Animals Concern Trust gave the FDA a petition signed by 37,000 people urging the agency to ban the feeding of poultry waste to cows. It is estimated that cattle are fed between one and two million tons of poultry waste each year. The FDA was given until November 11 to respond, but a search of their website found no mention of any regulations. The agency has considered this request several times previously, and is most likely still debating it, especially with opposition to the ban coming from the powerful National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.
