With every environmental disaster that happens do more people see the importance of going green?

It certainly does seem that way.  In the recent Gulf Coast oil spill, there was a lot of civilian offers to assist clean up.

The question is: how many of those newly eco-conscious people will stick to a green routine?

In my opinion, very little.  When environmental issues are presented to them, many people will care temporarily, but once it fades into the background, they will forget — that is, if we let it fade!

Environmental disasters pique people’s interest in green issues, so it’s an excellent opportunity to educate!

Use unfortunate disasters as a platform for education, and maybe we can make more people long-term “green” citizens.
