Is environmental studies required in colleges?

    No, environmental studies courses are not required for all students in colleges. However, if one class of this sort was incorporated into any type of curriculum, awareness of environmental matters would definitely increase. Rather obviously, environmental studies courses are definitely required for students pursuing that major.

    While I do not know of general schools (as in schools that offer more options than, say College of the Atlantic, which is geared towards the environmental studies) that require a course, I know that a number of schools have started initiatives that aim to designate one environmental studies course as a graduation requirement for all undergraduates. Stanford is one of them, NYU another, Cornell another. While there are no major universities issuing enviro studies as a part of a core curriculum yet, there are promising signs that this will change in the next few years.
