Environmental law is regulated at both the Federal and State level. Federal laws, controlled by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) trumps state law and requires a minimum on standards. While states can set their own laws that require more strict standards than the EPA does, these vary by state but usually California is the leading state in producing the most stringent laws.
