The Empire State Building’s retrofit project started in April of 2009 and is slated to be complete by 2013. Retrofitting the windows is the latest accomplished project. Using 96% of existing glass and frames, 6,514 windows were refurbished in early – mid October, 2010. The project is striving for efficiency through the use of existing and recycled materials. When retrofitting is complete, total energy usage will be reduced by an estimated 38% and carbon emission will be reduced by 105,000 metric tons over the next 15 years.
