Ecuador needs the income from the farm lands that it produces by cutting down the rainforests. The loss of this source of income hurts the poorer Ecuadorian farmers, makes the government uneasy because it makes less profit from farm labor, and it also makes the leaders feel as though they cannot use their resources as they wish. The ultimatum is extreme, but I think that the reasoning is justified. The country of Ecuador does not necessarily have all of the advanced technologies that help boost our economy. Without that economical advantage that more developed companies have the country of Ecuador relies heavily on exploiting its land. It is threatening when the request means that one of the country’s sources of income will be halted.
