Is drinking beer green?

It can be. Many major beers (Budweiser, Coors, etc.) are bottled at a few select plants and then shipped thousands of miles which means they use a lot of fossil fuels to get to you. However, there is a blossoming movement of home-brewers and local breweries that have established strong markets. Brewing at home or buying locally not only severely lowers the energy needed, but it is also a political and social choice for a local economy, just like shopping at a farmers market.
