Yes, they do. I had a makeshift compost pile in a flower pot for a while and it was fodder for ants, the neighborhood raccoon, squirrels, and an occasional deer. While the smaller insect pests are unavoidable and may be an integral part of the compost system, it is good to build or buy a larger pest-proof compost that is heavy with a lockable lid.
