There are a lot of other examples of interspecies breeding, but most pairs produce sterile hybrid offspring. For instance, the cross breeding of a horse and a donkey creates a mule. Another example is the breeding of a lion with a tiger in captivity. The offspring produced is called either a liger or a tigon. Most ligers and tigons are sterile, but sometimes females can successfully mate with a male tiger or lion.
