Wal-mart tries to appeal to a vast consumer audience, trying to be an all-in-one kind of store. In order to have that many options for consumers, they need quite a bit of square footage to house everything, from the grocery section to electronics, bicycles and camping gear. Compare it to Costco: aside from the goods being different sizes, they’re really quite similar.
