Activities like wakeboarding, water skiing and tubing pollute the water due to the boat that is pulling the tow rope. When you have a motor boat in the water you can smell and see the gas/oil mix that is coming out of the motor. Otherwise, the materials such as the tow rope or wake board would not likely become part of the debris in a body of water as they generally are made to float and could be esily retrieved if they become broken.
Wakeboarding likely does not negatively affect the environment. unless you are doing so in an area with coral or a diverse underwater community and step down into this area. Activities that are loud and cause pollution, like boating, jet-skiing, and water-skiing are more detrimental to the environment.
