As of March 2011, Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, has called off all plans for building nuclear power plants in the country due to the nuclear disaster that Japan had earlier in the year.
There had been plans with a Russian company to explore nuclear power in the country after the president warned against relying on foreign oil, but these plans have since been shelved.
What the next energy steps are for the country are unknown, although the president did say that the country would make the most of the situation by continuing to sell the oil they have to countries who have also abandoned or shelved nuclear power plans due to the disaster in Japan.
