x ray film taken at hospital and returned to patcient is safe to store at home
Used x ray film does not emit any measurable amount of radiation. There is no danger in having it in your home. However, it can contain trace amounts of silver and there are companies out there who will pick up x rays (in large amounts, not just one or two) and pay you for the silver extracted. To dispose of x rays, contact your local recycling center or hospital to ask where to drop them off.
