Does the U.S. mint make more coins these days than previous years?

    No. In fact, the total number of coins produced by the U.S. Mint has been dropping steadily since 2000, when it peaked. The number of minted coins was fairly steady between 1980 and 2000, and in 2008, the Mint produced just over half the number of coins minted on average in a given year between 1980 and 2000.
