Geoengineering, in the current context, generally refers to using artificial methods to cool the planet in order to offset global warming. There are many scientists around the world who believe this is the kind of aggressive approach we need to counter the pattern of climate change that we have initiated through years of pumping greenhouse gases into the stratosphere. Some Geoengineering proposals include building a sunscreen in space, releasing sulfur dioxide into the stratosphere to block the sun, and releasing reflective particles into the air to bounce sun rays back into space. However, most geoengineering approaches have side-effects that make them unfeasible, and many are probably unrealistic and won’t work.
