Does the United States Armed Forces have trouble finding potable water sources in countries they are occupying?

Soldiers do. Not exactly your question, but there are stories about how soldiers have been forced to buy their own purification tablets and/or bottles of water and one story where soldiers stole water:

A key part of supply lines is developing or maintaining potable water sources.  If one can’t be secured, often water purification systems or chemical purifiers are brought in to do the job.  it can be an issue when a new area is being occupied or conquered, but once bases are established supply lines can be set up to deal with the issue.
