Does the UK use a lot less energy driving than we do?

Assuming that by “we”, you mean the United States, then yes. US gasoline consumption is about 138 billion gallons per year, or 44% of the world’s consumption overall. Most of this goes into ground transportation. This is two-fold the amount used in the UK and the rest of western Europe. The UK, besides having much fewer people to drive, also has better policies. Gas is more expensive and public transportation is generally much more accessible, making driving a less attractive option for the British.
