Oil is a very powerful industry in Texas. In fact, Gov. Rick Perry recently announced his continued support of offshore drilling after the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Texas leads the U.S. in non-renewable energy, but natural gas has overtaken oil as the leading non-renewable energy source.
Renewable energy is gaining ground, and as less crude oil becomes available, the state will probably begin to rely more on wind and solar energy, since Texas has been rated as one of the states with the highest potential in both of these renewable energy sources.
