Does the tax break that the government gives you for your hybrid cover the added cost?

    It depends on the vehicle.  According to Edmunds, “not counting the Lexus models, hybrid cars cost roughly $1,700 to $11,200 more than comparably equipped gasoline vehicles”.  Also, federal tax incentives vary with each vehicle.  There is also a cap to how many vehicles qualify for the tax credit.  Once this cap is reached, the rebate amount gradually decreases until the incentive expires.  For a list of current federal rebate amounts, visit:
