Does a tall smoke stack help reduce pollution?

Not really. The ecological advantage to a taller smokestack is that it puts the pollution out at a higher altitude, so that it is less concentrated by the time it falls back down and most living things breathe it in. But if the smokestack is structurally the same as its shorter counterparts, it will spew relatively the same amount of air pollution into the atmosphere. Along with increasing the temperature and velocity of the smoke, building smokestacks taller is a major strategy of architects trying to make the pollution more dilute.
