Does the sun play a major role in the reproduction of plants?

The sun plays a major role in the photosynthesis of plants, the process in which the plant converts sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to glucose and oxygen. Depending on the season, (how the earth is oriented on its axis to the sun) plants will start to reproduce or take cues from nature to become dormant for winter, start budding or any other function they are capable of. The sun and the earth’s distance from the sun plays a major role in life in general.
