Sugar, on its own, does not rot teeth. The cause of tooth decay is bacteria that produce acid. Those bacteria feed off carbohydrates, which is in sugar as well as a whole lot of other foods. The trick is not to avoid carbohydrates (your body needs them), but to keep the teeth clean from sticky carbs that may be hanging around in there.
