Mmmm, squash my favorite vegetable. I don’t think you need any special soil for squash. I grew up in the midwest and we had pumpkins and squash growing in our back yards. One site I found says that squash require warm soil (60-70 Fahrenheit) and should be planted after all danger of frost has passed. Both of my grandmothers also grew squash in their gardens and they mixed composted table scraps into their soil as a way to minimize their waste (my grannies were green before it was cool). Their squashes were always much better than mine (we did not compost, but occasionally mixed de-smelled manure in our garden before planting).
