Does recycling something save pollution?

Recycling saves more pollution than using solely products from virgin materials, but does not save as much as purely reusing a product rather than replacing it. Recycling paper, for example, reduces the amount of air pollution by 74% and water pollution by 35% compared to creating paper from trees originally.
