Solar power systems don’t necessarily include batteries or other energy storage methods (such as heating up certain materials), although many implementations do this to make solar power more reliable.
One of the alternatives is “grid storage”, where the solar power is connected to the grid. A meter measures the excess electricity supplied to the grid (such as during the day), and allows drawing an equivalent amount for free when there is not enough (during the night).
In addition, depending on the particular setup’s wiring and regulation equipment, the electricity from the photovoltaic panels (or other solar power source) may either all go into the batteries and then to power the home and possibly the grid; or have the batteries connected parallel to the home or grid connection.
