Does the smog from coal plants spread all over the United States?

    Coal-fired power plants directly emit particulate matter (aka “soot”) and gases that undergo chemical reactions to form fine particles in the atmosphere. These fine particles increase the environmental concentration of soot for hundreds to thousands of kilometers downwind of the plants.
