Does sand hold heat well?

more or less, yes. If you’ve ever walked barefoot onto a sandy beach mid summer on a sunny day you’ll notice your feet burn. Thats because the sand holds the sun’s heat and becomes hot itself. The heat dissipates once the sun sets.
