There’s no consensus, as some zoos claim to be superior in the breeding of specific animals (Oregon Zoo for elephants; Brookfield Zoo in Chicago for black rhinoceros). However, it does appear that the San Diego Zoo is well-regarded worldwide in terms of breeding success.

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park (it used to be the Wild Animal Park) boasts the largest crash of rhinos and “the most successful captive breeding program for rhinos anywhere in the world.” A southern white rhinoceros male at the Safari Park sired 50 babies while the Safari Park also can say that they have a fifth-generation greater one-horned rhinoceros born in captivity.
