Does the production of beef use more water than any other food in America?

    According to, beef is rated to use up about 2500-5000 gallons per pound, depending on the geographical location. The only other food from those listed to come within that range is chocolate – 2847 gallons. Fruits, vegetables, and grains have much lower numbers, and out of meat and dairy the other foods that use a lot of water (besides beef) are butter (2044 ga) and pork (1630 ga).
