If you pick your scabs you are not allowing the healing process to finish and therefore if you keep doing it you will get a scar.
Yes, it often does. “Picking scabs off a healing wound could increase your chances of leaving behind a visible scar” (John F. Romano, M.D – see link). A scab is the external manifestation of your body healing. Picking at it can therefore inhibit your body’s natural healing process.
You can minimize scarring by using cocoa butter or vitamin E capsules, but the best way to avoid serious scarring is to not pick your scabs and when they do come off (on their own), begin applying cocoa butter daily.
