Does pasteurization make milk last longer?

Pasteurization helps control the number of pathogens in milk and other liquids so they don’t become harmful to the consumer. I believe that is does destroy most enzymes and live bacteria in the liquids, which partially sterilizes the liquid. In this case, under proper conditions (refrigeration), the product will have a longer shelf life.
