Does the paint on roads contaminate water?

Yes, usually when it is wet or the rains are hard enough. If enough pressure hits the pavement, this can cause the paint to crack. This causes debris and other particles to chip off. The same occurs when the paint is new. When rainfall occurs, much of the water on the roads usually go into the sewers, lakes, oceans, etc depending on location. If the paint has loosened, this can get caught up in the run off and thus, end up in the water.
